The Nintendo Switch – OLED Model is an upgraded version of the original Nintendo Switch, designed to enhance the portable and tabletop gaming experience without changing the core performance specs. Released in October 2021, it retains compatibility with the same game library and accessories while offering notable hardware improvements that make a significant difference in daily use.

At the heart of the OLED model is its stunning 7-inch OLED display, which provides richer colors, deeper contrast, and more vibrant visuals compared to the 6.2-inch LCD screen of the standard model. This is especially noticeable in games with darker color palettes or detailed environments like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. While the resolution remains 1280×720 in handheld mode, the screen’s superior quality enhances immersion dramatically.

Another key improvement is the redesigned kickstand, which is now a full-width, adjustable support—far more stable and flexible than the original’s narrow stand. This makes tabletop gaming much more reliable, allowing multiple angles of tilt. The system also comes with enhanced stereo speakers, delivering louder and clearer audio in handheld and tabletop modes.

The internal storage has been doubled from 32 GB to 64 GB, offering more room for digital downloads, though large game libraries will still benefit from a microSD card expansion. The included dock is also upgraded with a wired LAN port, enabling more stable internet connections for multiplayer games like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate or Splatoon 3.

Under the hood, the Switch OLED model runs on the same NVIDIA Tegra X1 chip, meaning no performance gains in terms of frame rate or graphics. Battery life is also the same as the updated V2 Switch, ranging from 4.5 to 9 hours depending on game intensity.

Physically, the OLED model is slightly larger and heavier than the base model, but still highly portable. The Joy-Con controllers are identical and interchangeable with all Switch systems. Unfortunately, known issues like Joy-Con drift persist.
