The most significant upgrade lies in its internal hardware. The Clip 5 features a larger 45mm (1.75-inch) driver and a more efficient amplifier that pushes the output to 7W RMS, a 40% increase in wattage compared to the Clip 4. While a speaker this size cannot produce sub-bass frequencies, JBL has engineered a passive radiator that delivers a punchier, more audible “kick” in the low end. High-end clarity has also been sharpened, making vocals and acoustic instruments stand out even in noisy outdoor environments.

 Rugged Design & Utility

The iconic integrated carabiner has been completely redesigned with a significantly wider opening. This allows it to clip onto thicker objects like bicycle handlebars, heavy-duty backpack straps, or shower rods that previous models couldn’t accommodate. It retains an IP67 rating, making it fully dustproof and waterproof (submersible up to 1 meter for 30 minutes). Additionally, the back of the speaker features thicker, more durable silicone ribs to prevent the device from sliding when placed on flat surfaces.

 Battery & “Playtime Boost”

The battery capacity has been increased to provide 12 hours of continuous playback. However, the introduction of Playtime Boost technology is the real game-changer; this software optimization extends the battery life to 15 hours by intelligently adjusting the EQ to prioritize efficiency. Charging is handled via a standard USB-C port and takes approximately 3 hours for a full cycle.

For the first time in the Clip series, the device is fully compatible with the JBL Portable App. This unlocks:

• Custom EQ: A 5-band equalizer to fine-tune bass and treble.

• Auracast™: A new Bluetooth 5.3 standard that lets you sync audio with an unlimited number of other Auracast-enabled JBL speakers.
