With up to 4,032 precise dimming zones and up to 6,000 nits HDR brightness, the 98C8L is built to handle bright and dark areas with a high level of precision. The combination of Mini LED backlighting and Super QLED technology gives movies, sports, games and streaming content a more dynamic and realistic appearance.
The television also features a 144Hz native refresh rate, with TCL’s 288Hz VRR Game Accelerator when supported by the connected source, making it particularly suitable for fast-moving content and high-performance gaming.
Product Description
The TCL 98C8L brings an impressive cinema-style viewing experience into the home with its massive 98-inch display. Its large screen provides an expansive viewing area that is ideal for dedicated home theatres, spacious living rooms, entertainment rooms and commercial viewing environments.
At the centre of the display is TCL’s SQD-Mini LED technology. Instead of relying on a conventional backlight, the television uses numerous precisely controlled Mini LED zones to improve light management across the screen. The result is better separation between bright highlights and darker areas, helping scenes appear more dimensional and detailed.
The Super QLED system works together with TCL’s Ultra Colour Filter technology to deliver a wide range of vibrant colours. The 98-inch C8L is designed to achieve up to 100% BT.2020 colour gamut coverage in supported conditions, giving compatible content a rich and expansive colour presentation.
For HDR content, the television can reach up to 6,000 nits peak brightness on the 98-inch model. This allows bright highlights, reflections, lights and other high-intensity details to stand out while maintaining detail in darker portions of the picture.

98-Inch Ultra-Large Display
The huge 98-inch screen gives the TCL C8L an impressive presence in any entertainment space. Its expansive viewing area allows viewers to experience films, sports and games on a scale that comes much closer to a cinema environment.
The large panel is especially useful when several people are watching together, as the picture remains easy to appreciate across a wide seating arrangement.
For customers looking for a premium big-screen television in Kenya, the 98C8L provides a combination of size and advanced display technology that goes well beyond a standard 55-inch, 65-inch or 75-inch TV.
SQD-Mini LED Technology
TCL’s SQD-Mini LED technology is one of the main highlights of the C8L. The system uses thousands of individually controlled lighting areas to improve contrast and brightness management.
The 98-inch model features up to 4,032 precise dimming zones. More precise control over the backlight helps the television reproduce bright objects against dark backgrounds with greater definition while reducing unwanted light spread.
This makes a difference in scenes containing stars, city lights, fire, reflections and other high-contrast elements.
Up to 6,000 Nits HDR Brightness
The TCL 98C8L is designed for exceptionally bright HDR performance, with up to 6,000 nits peak brightness on the 98-inch model.
High brightness helps HDR content reproduce strong highlights with greater impact. Sunlight, explosions, headlights, reflections and other bright elements can appear more intense while the Mini LED system works to maintain detail around darker areas.
Super QLED Colour
TCL combines Mini LED backlighting with Super QLED technology to produce a wide and vibrant colour range.
The C8L can deliver up to 100% BT.2020 all-scenes wide colour gamut under supported conditions. This provides a broad colour palette for compatible content, allowing landscapes, sports, animation and cinematic scenes to appear rich and expressive.
WHVA 2.0 Ultra Panel
The WHVA 2.0 Ultra Panel is designed to support strong contrast, improved viewing performance and accurate picture reproduction.
Combined with Mini LED backlighting and TCL’s advanced image processing, the panel helps the 98C8L produce detailed images while maintaining the premium appearance expected from a flagship large-screen television.
TCL All-Domain Halo Control Technology
One of the challenges of high-brightness Mini LED televisions is controlling unwanted light around bright objects. TCL’s All-domain Halo Control Technology is designed to improve this area.
The C8L combines advanced optical control, precise dimming and panel technology to minimise halo effects and improve the separation between light and dark areas.
Micro-OD Technology
The C8L uses Micro-OD optical technology to help improve light control while allowing for a slimmer television design.
The optical architecture works alongside the Mini LED system to reduce unwanted light spread and improve the appearance of small bright objects against dark backgrounds.
144Hz Native Refresh Rate
The TCL 98C8L features a 144Hz native refresh rate, providing smoother motion than conventional 60Hz televisions.
This is useful for:
- Fast-paced sports
- Action movies
- Racing games
- First-person games
- Football and other live broadcasts
- High-frame-rate gaming
A higher refresh rate helps reduce visible motion blur and provides smoother transitions during fast movement.
288Hz VRR Game Accelerator
For compatible gaming sources, TCL provides a 288Hz VRR Game Accelerator. The television supports a 4K 144Hz signal path, while compatible 288Hz sources can take advantage of the higher refresh-rate mode.
Variable Refresh Rate helps synchronise the display with compatible gaming hardware, helping reduce screen tearing and improving the overall responsiveness of gameplay.
AiPQ Processor
The TSR AiPQ Processor is designed to optimise image processing and improve the presentation of different types of content.
It works with TCL’s picture technologies to help process colour, contrast, sharpness and other image characteristics. This allows the television to adapt its processing to different scenes and content.
Whether watching movies, sports, streaming programmes or playing games, the processor helps deliver a more refined picture.
HDR Entertainment
The TCL 98C8L is built for high-quality HDR viewing. Its high brightness capability and precise Mini LED control allow HDR-compatible content to show stronger highlights while maintaining contrast between different parts of the scene.
HDR is particularly noticeable in movies and streaming content mastered with a wide brightness range.
IMAX Enhanced
The 98C8L supports IMAX Enhanced, making it suitable for compatible cinematic content designed to take advantage of the format’s picture and sound characteristics.
Combined with the enormous 98-inch display, IMAX Enhanced content can provide a more immersive home cinema experience.
Gaming Performance
The TCL 98C8L is also designed with modern gaming in mind. Its high refresh rate, VRR support and HDMI 2.1 connectivity make it suitable for compatible next-generation gaming systems and high-performance PCs.
Features include:
- 4K 144Hz VRR
- 288Hz VRR Game Accelerator
- HDMI 2.1
- FreeSync Premium Pro
- Low-latency gaming support
- Large 98-inch gaming canvas
The huge screen makes racing, sports, adventure and cinematic games particularly immersive.
Smart Entertainment
The TCL 98C8L is designed as a modern smart television, providing access to connected entertainment and streaming services depending on the software and region.
TCL AI features are also incorporated into the television to provide intelligent interaction and convenient control.
With the right connected devices and services, the TV can become the central entertainment hub for movies, music, gaming and other digital content.
Premium Ultra-Slim Design
Despite its enormous 98-inch screen, the C8L is designed with a premium, ultra-slim appearance.
The slim profile and refined styling allow the television to complement modern interiors while placing the focus on the large border-free viewing area.
It can be used as a statement centrepiece in a spacious living room, dedicated cinema room, entertainment area or commercial environment.
